REVIEW: Chowing Down at Buck's Bar - My Salt and Chilli Feast in Edinburgh

When you wander around Edinburgh, the appeal of a vibrant eatery is hard to resist. I recently discovered Buck's Bar on Hanover Street, a place that captured my heart and taste buds. Known for its banging chicken burgers, choosing this spot was effortless when hunger struck.

The Vibe at Buck's Bar

Stepping into Buck's Bar, I was greeted by a cool and vibey atmosphere. The red neon signs and rock and roll pictures that adorned the walls creates a fun and welcoming space that feels like home. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxed night out with friends. The cheerful chatter and laughter from other diners filled the air. It felt like I had discovered a local favourite, a hidden gem nestled in the city's heart.

What We Ordered

Honey Sriracha Wings

To kick off my meal, I chose the Honey Sriracha wings. From the first bite, I was hooked! The wings were expertly cooked, boasting a crispy outside that framed tender, juicy meat. The honey sriracha sauce was truly the highlight, with its sweet and spicy notes combining beautifully.

Salt and Chilli Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger

Next, we dove into the Salt and Chilli Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger, paired with a generous heap of salt and chilli chips. When my burger arrived, the sight alone was drool-worthy. The chicken breast, perfectly breaded, boasted a golden crust that promised crunch.

Each bite of the juicy buttermilk chicken delivered a burst of flavor, complemented by just the right amount of seasoning, and huge dollop of curry sauce. The fresh, fluffy buns supported the humongous patty perfectly. And oh, those chips - they were addictive! Fluffy and well-seasoned, they were an irresistible sidekick to my burger.

Scotsman Burger

We also had to try the Scotsman Burger, highly praised by previous diners. The burger came stacked with a giant buttermilk fried chicken breast, topped with a sprinkling of haggis, caramelised onions, and creamy peppercorn sauce. The burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and bursting with flavour. Pairing it with those delicious salt and chilli chips made for an indulgent combo that left us wanting more.

Service and Value

Throughout my visit, the service at Buck's Bar stood out. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, ensuring I had everything I needed without feeling overwhelmed. Regarding value, Buck's Bar offers reasonably priced dishes considering their quality. Each portion was (really) generous, making it easy to share or enjoy on your own—something I might have overdone!
