REVIEW: Shrek The Musical | Edinburgh Playhouse | UK Tour 2024

Writer's picture: Jenna CockburnJenna Cockburn

Enchanting the stage of Edinburgh Playhouse this week, is the Broadway and West End hit Shrek The Musical.

Families filled the auditorium and the air abuzz with eager excitement, the iconic orge bounded on stage. Even with a sketchy Scottish accent, Antony Lawrence embodied the magic and motion of the title character, Shrek.

Joanna Clifton bossed the part of the fiesty Princess Fiona with sass and class in equal measure. Brendan Lee Sears completes the legendary trio, delivering the well known comedic chops and physicality of Donkey perfectly.

With a colourful set and catchy musical numbers, the show all came together with the help of the very talented ensemble of fairytale characters. Each with their own moments scattered throughout to showcase their powerhouse vocals and impressive dancing.

And, of course, an exhilarating performance of "I'm A Believer" comes as the big finale.

Enchantingly Epic, Shrek the Musical is a fairytale adventure of thrills and giggles!

At Edinburgh Playhouse until Saturday 27th January.
